It is not just New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. who paid the price for a very heated matchup last Sunday, as Carolina Panthers cornerback Josh Norman was fined by the National Football League (NFL) for his actions as well.
Norman and Beckham had a very physical battle during the Panthers' 38–35 victory which involved a number of tough hits, verbal altercations, and penalties.
Beckham was even handed by the NFL a one-game suspension, which will make him miss their game Sunday versus the Minnesota Vikings, because of a helmet-to-helmet hit on Norman.
But Norman also received a disciplinary sanction and, according to USA Today Sports, was fined a total of $26,044 for two violations.
The report broke down the fine and stated that the 28-year-old received a $17,363 fine for striking Beckham in the head and neck area, while the other $8,681 involves Beckham's face mask.
Just like Beckham who appealed his suspension (but lost), Norman would also appeal, according to ESPN.
The report also mentioned Norman being on ESPN's Mike & Mike radio show where he spoke about his actions in the win over the Giants and toward Beckham.
"The crazy part about all the unsportsmanlike conducts, I was just trying to be myself at the end of the day," Norman said.
He also explained one of the plays in which he was given a penalty that was during a play and within the whistle.
Norman then went on to speak his mind about Beckham and shared, "I just pretty much showed people what this guy [Beckham] really is and what he stands for. I just don't feel like that's a part of the game that should be played. If you want to play, let's play it straight up, let's do it the right way."
Despite the fine, it was a good thing Norman was not suspended like Beckham and will join the Panthers when they aim to go 15–0 this Sunday versus the Atlanta Falcons.
