'Bourne 5' release date, movie news: New featurette hints that Bourne is working with CIA

 Universal Pictures

A brand-new featurette for "Jason Bourne" has been released, and as stated in a report from Cinema Blend, it gives the impression that this time around Bourne (Matt Damon) may be working together with the CIA to a degree instead of outrightly running away from them as he tries to uncover some sort of truth or information regarding his past.

The official trailer for the film revealed that while Bourne may know his true name he still does not know everything, indicating that there are still secrets being kept from him. The character is then seen resurfacing in public, to the shock of the CIA agents monitoring key events.

Cinema Blend points out that this may mean Bourne discovers something and will work with the CIA in exchange for some information. It is also possible that the CIA and Bourne simply have a similar objective or a similar enemy, forcing them to work together in some way.

The featurette also reveals that both Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass are delighted to be back for the project, with the latter comparing it to members of an old rock band reuniting for another concert.

Damon also explained that he loved playing the role and was grateful for landing the part back in 2000, allowing him to star in the first film which was eventually released in 2002. The featurette also focuses on the time that has passed and that a lot in the world has changed since "The Bourne Ultimatum," guaranteeing that the new film will feel fresh and challenging.

It is also reiterated in the report that Damon claims the film will be "bigger" than the three films he had worked on, ensuring fans that the high-octane level of action and intelligence will continue in the new film. Unfortunately, the featurette does not give any insight if "Jason Bourne" will acknowledge any of the events that took place in "The Bourne Legacy."

"Jason Bourne" opens in theaters this July 29.
