'Boruto: Naruto the Movie' plot: TV ad hints at Mitsuki's parentage

Mitsuki in Boruto: Naruto the Movie Toho

"Boruto: Naruto the Movie" is scheduled to hit Japanese theaters on Aug. 7 while its U.S. debut will run from Oct. 7 to 11 during the New York Comic-Con. One of the latest television ads for the highly anticipated anime film gives some insight on the characters' interactions while also giving fans a sneak peak at the background of the new character Mitsuki.

Mitsuki is an entirely new character that did not appear in the "Naruto" manga series and was created entirely for the new film which focuses on the new generation of ninja — the children of the manga and anime's main cast. Mitsuki is described as a mysterious boy who just migrated to Konoha. His real origin is unknown.

The new character's only introduction thus far comes from the "gaiden" manga, "The Seventh Hokage and the Scarlet Spring."

According to a report from iDigital Times, it is very likely that Mitsuki's father is none other than the villainous Orochimaru. Orochimaru is still under surveillance and is still banned from the village of Konoha but it is still possible that Mitsuki's mother is a resident of Konoha.

The TV ad reveals that Boruto, Sarada, and Mitsuki are put together in a 3-person squad, a system that is implemented once students have graduated. Given that Boruto and Sarada are both children of legendary heroes — Naruto and Sasuke respectively — it does give them room to question who Mitsuki is and where he comes from.

Another theory posted by the report is that Mitsuki could be the son of Kakashi and Anko, given that white hair is common amongst Kakashi's clan and Mitsuki's snake-like features could have been passed down from Anko.

There are no further "gaiden" or side-story manga series planned to further look into Mitsuki's heritage and background so fans will have to wait for the Aug. 7 release of the film to finally unravel the character's mysteries.
