Blood Moon lunar eclipse live stream video [start time]: How to watch online

blood moon/total lunar eclipse NASA

A total lunar eclipse or "Blood Moon" will occur on Saturday, April 4. It will be visible in a large portion of North and South America, Asia, and Australia. Japan, some parts of Australia, and the state of Alaska will be able to view 100 percent of the event from start to finish.

The rest of the areas mentioned will be able to view 50 – 75 percent of the event.

The penumbral eclipse will begin from 09:01 UTC, marking the beginning of the moon moving into the Earth's shadow. The full eclipse starts at 11:57 UTC and ends at 12:02 UTC with the maximum eclipse or total coverage occurring at 12:00 UTC.

At just five minutes total, this will mark the shortest total lunar eclipse in the century and the third lunar eclipse for this tetrad. The next one is going to occur on Sept. 28.

A lunar eclipse is when the moon passes through the Earth's shadow, blocking it from receiving the sun's light. When a total lunar eclipse occurs, the moon is shrouded in darkness and the only light that passes through the atmosphere of the Earth gives it a blood red glow, hence the name "Blood Moon."

For those who will not be able to see the Blood Moon occur, a live feed of the event will be available on Slooh.com as well as on the official NASA web page, courtesy of Slooh.

NASA has made it clear that the Blood Moon is completely harmless. It is merely the moon passing in a shadow and the red color is only a play on light. However, not all are convinced.

Pastor John Hagee previously said that the Blood Moon was a sign from the Bible and that it predicted world-changing events, even the end of the world.
