Black cab rapist John Worboys 'found God' in prison

John Worboys, the black cab taxi driver convicted on multiple counts of sexual assault and one rape, became a Christian in prison and believes God has forgiven him, according to the Daily Star.

Worboys is set to be released on parole after being jailed in 2009 in a decision that has caused widespread outrage. It also emerged that some of his victims were not told of his impending release, leading the chair of the Parole Board Nick Hardwick to apologise 'unreservedly' for its failure.

A prison source told the Star: 'Worboys is seriously misguided and I believe is potentially still a danger to women.

'He thinks he is born again since embracing religion and that he has been forgiven.

'He says he is a changed man – but how can this be proved?'

Worboys is believed to have attended services at Wakefield prison. The source said: 'A cynical person might think he's done this as the best way of getting parole.'

One of those to express their horror at the Parole Board's failure to inform Worboys' victims of his release was Gavin Drake, whose wife Jill Saward, herself a rape victim who campaigned throughout her life against sexual violence, died a year ago.

He told Christian Today: 'You have to ask the question, "What is the point in the criminal justice system having procedures if, when it comes to it with one of the most predatory sexual attack cases, they don't follow them?"'
