Billy Graham says judgmental people commit sin in God's eyes but still deserve love and kindness

World-renowned evangelist Billy Graham says people who are judgmental and always critical of what other people are doing are committing sin in the eyes of God.

Graham explains in his column for The Kansas City Star that these people are committing sin because they probably aren't telling the truth whenever they choose to be critical. "What they're saying about the person they're criticising often isn't true. Even if partly true, it's not the whole story, and it only brings hurt and conflict," he says.

At the same time, Graham says these people are setting themselves above everyone else and pretend as if they do not have any faults of their own by focusing on the mistakes of other people.

"Not only is this wrong, but it's also untrue, and it keeps them from admitting their need for God's forgiveness and help. Jesus said, 'Do not judge, or you too will be judged. Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?' (Matthew 7:1, 3)."

Graham knows these kinds of people are unpleasant and difficult to live with, and they seldom change as well. But even though it can be difficult, he hopes Christians can respond to them with love instead of hurt and anger.

"In addition, go out of your way to be kind and to express an interest in [their lives]. People like [them] often are hungry for love, and God can use you to demonstrate his love for [them]," says Graham.

Even the Bible verse Romans 12:16 and 18 says this: "Live in harmony with one another. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone."
