Pop queen Beyoncé made a splash at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMA) on Sunday as she not only captivated the audience with a medley from her album "Lemonade" but also paid tribute and made references to God.

Beyoncé, who took home the Video of the Year award for "Formation," performed "Pray You Catch Me" and "Hold Up," the Christian Post reported.

In her performance of "Don't Hurt Yourself," the words "God is God, I am not" were flashed on the screen as she sang the lyrics "When you love me, you love yourself. Love God herself."

"You just gotta let it be, babe. Who the f--- do you think I am?" she shouted.

Her last song was "Formation," and ended the medley with a formation of "Venus symbol," referencing to femininity.

Beyoncé was the biggest winner on Sunday night, taking home eight Moonmen for "Lemonade," which was released last April.

The album carries various genres including pop, hip-hop and gospel. It's divided into 11 chapters: Intuition, Denial, Anger, Apathy, Emptiness, Accountability, Reformation, Forgiveness, Resurrection, Hope and Redemption.

A one-hour film accompanied the album that premiered on HBO featuring celebrities like Serena Williams and Zendaya. The album also made references to black women empowerment.

"Lemonade" also has scenes of prayer, fasting, confession, baptism, God, devil and curses that pertain to Beyoncé's marriage to rapper Jay Z.
