Are evangelical leaders really planning to quiz Trump over Stormy Daniels?

The spokesman for a group of unofficial evangelical advisers to President Donald Trump has denied reports he is to be quizzed on his alleged relationship with adult film star Stormy Daniels.

Rumours of an affair have dogged Trump in recent weeks and an NPR report claims the evangelical leaders are organising a sit-down meeting with him in June. One source told NPR they were 'very concerned' about the allegations, adding: 'It is a concern of ours that 2018 could be very detrimental to some of the other issues that we hold dear,' like religious liberty and restricting abortion rights.

The meeting said to be in the planning for June would be part of a day-long event for conservative religious leaders co-ordinated with the White House.

However, Johnnie Moore, who acts as convenor for the evangelical group, has denied the allegations in the report. He told Christian Today the June meeting was 'at a conceptual level only' at present and that there had been no serious discussion about the format of the event. He added that 'attaching the planning of the meeting to any past, personal accusations against the president is entirely farcical, that isn't the purpose and it has never been a point of discussion ... it would be about the issues'.

Moore said that if there had been any discussion about a potential meeting with Trump, he had been 'invited into every discussion about a potential meeting' and would have known if anything had been mentioned bearing out NPR's source, who had said had 'zero firsthand knowledge'.
