iPhone 6s specs, features: Handset to be thicker than predecessor

Apple iPhone 6 and 6 Plus Apple

There are a lot of rumors regarding the alleged Apple iPhone 6s, all attempting to uncover the Cupertino-based company's next offering even before it is made official. The latest word about the device is that it won't be thinner than the ones that came before it, something a bit odd and unexpected.

Tech firms have always worked on making their flagships slimmer every year as this has become much of a requirement, a criteria on which the device is evaluated. However, as per reports, adding a bit to the thickness would not hurt, especially when it can improve how the device works.

According to rumors, the reason behind the iPhone 6S getting an additional 0.2 mm to its build is because of the alleged integration of Force Touch, a feature that debuted in the Apple Watch that is rumored to be incorporated on the new iPhone.

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, whose track record when it comes to Apple predictions can be banked on, says that the thickness of the iPhone 6S was not prompted by Apple's concern on the bendiness or battery life but the precious Force Touch feature, which is said to be a major selling point.

The Force Touch feature interprets the pressure of the user's touch or tap into different functions, which means that tapping and pressing will be two different things for the iPhone and, therefore, will generate respective commands.

On the other hand, Tech Aeris sees it is a good thing that the new iPhone will be thicker than the one before it. Making it thinner, the site says, will be too much. A smartphone so skinny will be as difficult to grip as an oversized one.

Meanwhile, Kuo also predicts that the iPhone 6S will come in two sizes — one at 4.7 inches and the other measuring 5 inches. This pair of smartphones are said to be released in fall.
