For streamlined build and design, the Apple iPhone 6 and the HTC One M8 are the smartphones in the market to consider. But there's more to these fine-looking handsets than the outward show, and in this specs showdown, every bit of these flagship phones will be exposed.
Both smartphones are caked with aluminum, which make them the smoothest in the turf. Most have been resorting to faux leather and metal, stressing Apple's trademark body all the more. This time, HTC One M8 stood out the rest to share with Apple, or even snatch the department the Cupertino Company constantly owned. Thinness, however, is an entirely different story. The One M8 is bulky at 9.4mm thick. It looks even chunkier when put side by side with the 6.9-mm thin iPhone 6.
The HTC handset comes with a 5-inch Full HD display, which translates to a 1080 x 1920 screen resolution and a 441 ppi pixel density. The iPhone 6 is not too different than its predecessors when it comes to this department, except the full-size screen of course. Its 4.7-inch screen delivers 750 x 1334 display resolution and a 326 ppi pixel density. Its display is of Retina, which Apple promises to generate higher resolution. Nevertheless, HTC One M8 can pull off the same crisp details as well—might be even better.
The HTC One M8 is powered by a 2.3 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 with 2 GB of RAM. The Apple iPhone 6 houses only half of M8's RAM and a 64-bit 1.4 GHz dual-core A8 processor, which as some review sites claim boost the iPhone 6's performance to uncharted levels. On the other hand, HTC One M8's mainframe may not be Qualcomm's latest, but it is on the whole a high-speed handset.
Cameras do not have the wow factor, but they at least allow users to enjoy taking selfies and snaps. The iPhone 6 has an 8-megapixel rear-facing shooter, doubling HTC One M8's 4 megapixels. The latter, though, bounced back by beating the former's 1.2-megapixel snapper with its 5-megapixel front camera. Both the phone's rear cameras have dual LED flash.
As per GSM Arena, HTC One M8's can outlast the Apple iPhone 6. The former and its 2600mAh battery promise 20 hours of usage while the latter and its 1810mAh battery guarantee 14 hours.
Other perks unique to iPhone 6 include the fingerprint sensor for heightened security to go with the availability of the tech titan's first mobile payment service, Apple Pay. It makes use of the One-handed mode where users just have to double-tap the home button to have the screen glide down, therefore making it reachable with only one finger. The One M8 has Google Wallet fired up. It also has some performance-related extras like the Motion Launch (double-tap to turn on phone from sleep mode, swipe on the display to go to the home screen and hold down the volume button while in landscape to set off the camera), Extreme Power Saving Mode and the all too valuable front-facing BoomSound speakers.
The Apple iPhone 6 comes in Space Gray, Silver and Gold for all its 16 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB versions. The HTC One M8 has 16 GB and 32 GB models with color variants Gunmetal Gray, Glacial Silver and Amber Gold. The former is priced at $650 while the latter is less pricey at $570.
