Controversial rock singer Kristeen Young performed on the "Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" two weeks ago, but the backlash has only snowballed since word of her performance spread.

The song she performed, "Pearl of a Girl," was found to be offensive by many religious groups, and tens of thousands have signed a petition asking that CBS issue an apology.

The singer-songwriter performed on July 17, accompanied by the Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl and Pat Smear. The song is an anti-religion rant, criticizing Christianity, Islam, and Judaism.

Some of the lyrics are: "I never knew I was a girl until they stopped to tell me/I never knew I was disturbed until they dropped three volumes on me

"But in the Bible/Torah/Quran there are really no good roles for me except concubine and wash woman

"I used to be the sad one now I just wanna stab them/ it's so severe its brutal..."

Young goes on to say that the Virgin Mary should have aborted Jesus.

"They've needed to have the law so they can legally bind us/They've needed to have the church so they can morally ground us

"They've needed most of the dough they must be so scared of us/So their stories are of ghosts

"I only wish the virgin would have had an abortion."

Young has also promoted the fact that she designs and wears clothing with Satanic meanings.

"I felt like wearing and making something Satanic since music is so not right now," she told Paper Magazine last month.

"The skirt's pattern, which I painted on, represents the symbols of three major religions...but I've defaced them. The cross and the half moon are upside down and I sewed little metal pieces on the star points of the Star of David to look like blades making it like a martial arts throwing star weapon."

Over 32,000 people have signed a petition on Citizen Go asking CBS CEO Sumner Redstone to apologize for Young's performance.

"After reviewing your ethical statement and corporate governance, it is clear that this type of unacceptable activity does not meet your claimed 'ethical standards,'" the petition reads. "I ask that you issue a public apology."

CBS' corporate governance statement says that they are "committed to the highest standards of ethics and integrity" in all that they do.

Does the Church of England need to re-think its messaging?

If you look at the Church of England’s communications all that it ever seems to highlight is the good works that Christians do to improve the temporal well-being of their neighbours. It is right to highlight these things, but they are not the primary reason for the Church’s existence.
