The Zenfone 2 is reportedly in line to be the first Asus smartphone to receive the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update.
A Zenfone 2 user speaking with an Asus representative was the first to find out about the news. In their online chat, the Asus representative indicated that the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update for the Zenfone 2 was now in its final testing stages and set to be released soon, though no official date for this was given.
An imminent release of the latest Android update will put Asus well ahead of the timeline industry insiders had pegged for its release, according to the International Business Times UK.
The 5.1.1 Lollipop update aims primarily to fix bugs not addressed by the most previous version of the Android operating system.
Some of these issues can be considered minor, such as Wi-Fi not automatically connecting to already known hotspots or problems popping up with the phone's calculator.
Other issues are more problematic and have demanded much attention for a long time such as the phone's Chrome browser, password malfunctions and the system clock not working like it is supposed to. The latest update is expected to fix all of these issues.
As for new features, the update will reportedly allow owners to keep their devices locked until they access the device with their Google accounts. Another new feature will allow users to handle and dismiss heads-up notifications more efficiently.
With the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update set to be released for the Zenfone 2 very soon, it is expected that other Asus smartphones will follow suit, according to Softpedia. The rollout of the new update is expected to be gradual, meaning some models will receive the new software earlier than others.
