'Agent Carter' season 2 renewed? Announcement next week?

Hayley Atwell as Agent Carter Marvel

"Marvel's Agent Carter" ended its limited release with eight episodes but the ratings did not meet ABC's high hopes and expectations. But despite rumors of cancellation, Venture Capital Post hints that news of renewal could occur next week.

According to the news site, fans of the show may be pleasantly surprised when an announcement for its renewal is made sometime next week. However, there have been no official statements from any of the cast members, and ABC has said no word regarding a second season for "Agent Carter."

The show started to suffer when it was announced that its planned 13 episodes was being cut down to eight. The premiere episode and finale episode garnered over 4 million views, but in comparison to other programs, the show is still on the low end of approval. Still, the fact that "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." is still airing despite not faring so well with ratings per episode gives hope that "Agent Carter" may not be axed by the network.

Entertainment site Syracuse placed "Agent Carter" on its list for upcoming TV shows but it was tagged as "likely renewed." The site has not listed an expected date for the show's second season premiere.

Tara Butters, executive producer for "Agent Carter," has not yet given any official word regarding the show's renewal or cancellation, but she did recently state that plans are going forward in case a second season gets ordered.

The ABC network is known to make full announcements right before the spring break. VC Post speculates that the news of renewal would occur during this slew of announcements. However, because no rumor of renewal or cancellation has been confirmed by the network, the show still has an equal chance of being canned as much as it does getting a second season.

If the show does get renewed, fans would expect Hayley Atwell to come back as Agent Carter. She is set to reprise her role in this summer's "Avengers: Age of Ultron."
