Establishing good spiritual health habits is crucial to achieving a great spiritual health condition. These habits include dedicated Bible reading and studying, times of personal prayer and worship, as well as consistent meetings for accountability. All are crucial.

Nobody ever became good at a sport without practicing the disciplines necessary for it. In the same way, nobody will ever grow spiritually healthy without the disciplines required for it.

Are you looking to improve your spiritual health habits? Here are some tips to remember so that you can establish them well.

1. Remember that fast food is of no value compared to real food

Have you ever sat down to read your Bible for just five minutes, scanning the sentences like you were a machine that could properly understand all that's said in it? If you have, then you probably know what it means to read without understanding properly.

In the same way that fast food has no real health value compared to home-cooked healthy foods, skimming through the Bible for a quick fix won't do. You have to dedicate ample time for it to study and meditate on it. In fact, God wants us to meditate on it all day, and not just for a few seconds.

2. One kind of food isn't enough to meet all nutrition requirements

Have you ever tried eating just one kind of food each day for a whole week, only to realise that you aren't meeting your nutrition and health needs? In the same way, reading the same verse alone for a long period of time won't help you grow. You've got to read more, pray more, and receive more from the Lord.

Friends, although we must never depart from the gospel of Christ, we all have to desire, at some point in our life in Christ, to become mature. We should learn more of God, "move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God, instruction about cleansing rites, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment." (Hebrews 6:1-2)

"For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil." (Hebrews 5:13-14)

3. Practice makes perfect

Nutrition isn't meant to just make our bodies fat. It's meant to give us energy and the necessary nutrients to perform well in life. In the same way, spiritual nourishment through the Word of God and the Holy Spirit isn't meant to puff up our heads and make us feel spiritually knowledgeable. It's meant to push us to do what God has said.

"But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves." (James 1:22)
