'Transformers 5' movie spoilers, latest cast news: Megan Fox to return with Michael Bay gone?

From the cartoons to the live-action movies, "Transformers" has always had a huge following. Regardless if the critics couldn't help but rip apart the story and poke into the plot holes of the movies, fans and moviegoers cannot resist the movies' charm. They still find themselves going to the theatre, paying for tickets, and watching the film.

If there is one sure thing, every "Transformer" movie has been entertaining. The stories may not be the best, but the box office numbers prove that the franchise is still alive and kicking. A good example is "Transformers: Age of Extinction," which the critics just murdered with negative reviews. And yet, despite numerous competitors, the movie was able to bag the highest earning movie of 2014.

Last year, "Age of Extinction" grossed $1.091 billion in both the domestic and global markets. According to Deadline, the movie profited $250.155 million. So despite what critics have to say, the numbers are clear — "Transformers 5" is inevitable.

Optimus Prime and the rest of the Autobots will return. However, the humans that will be working with them have an uncertain future. Director Michael Bay, who helmed the earlier movies, said that he won't be returning for the fifth installment. However, there are reports that there is still a possibility that he will. Further, there were rumors that "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" director Jonathan Liebesman will take on the directing duties. But, this hasn't been confirmed yet.

As for the cast, Mark Wahlberg already confirmed that he will be back, but for the female lead role, nothing is sure. Nicola Peltz was said to be returning with Wahlberg as they previously played a father-daughter relationship in "Age of Extinction." Then again, media outlets are going crazy with the possibility of Megan Fox returning to the franchise now that Bay is gone.

While fans may want to see Fox's return, there's still that contract with "TMNT" that she has to deal with. Plus, there's no certainty that "TMNT" will allow her to star in "Transformers" once again as the female lead.
