'Tokyo Ghoul' season 3 release date rumors, spoilers: New season to reset show?

"Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 will be resetting the anime, according to new reports. This is because the show is expected to completely divert from its source material -- the form of a popular manga series created by Sui Ishida.

The second season of the anime totally sidetracked from the manga, and it is believed that it will do the same for the new season. Some media outlets are reporting that it will completely be a reboot of the series.

Taking into account the events in the previous season, which seemed like they already wrapped up the anime, "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 will be a fresh start instead of a continuation of a bigger story.

It looks like the story established in the first season was already tied into a pretty bow in the last hours of the second season. While some will find the ending a bit indefinite, it did feel like a conclusion to a tale.

That being said, "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 will be something new. The rumored regeneration of the anime will allow it to follow the manga this time. Crossmap, however, notes that fans are not too thrilled of a reboot.

Meanwhile, the premiere date for the new season is still uncertain, although there's word that "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3 episodes will be dropping sometime this year. Studio Pierrot, the company behind the anime, is yet to provide specifics.

As for the plot, word on the street is that the story will be told from the lens of ghoul and ex-waitress Touka Kirishima. The manga and the anime originally follows amnesiac and college student Kaneki, which makes the Kirishima arc unwelcome to fans.

In other related news, apart from "Tokyo Ghoul" season 3, fans will reportedly be treated to a video game inspired by the manga, hinting that Ishida's creation is beginning to grow bigger.
