Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) will turn against each other when CW's supernatural series "The Vampire Diaries" returns for its seventh season.

TV Guide reports that the fight will be orchestrated by none other than Lily (Annie Wersching), the cunning matriarch of the Salvatore family. Executive producer Caroline Dries reveals that Lily will be trying out new tricks to control her sons in the upcoming installment.

"What I love about Lily is that I don't think we ever see her lift a finger on the show. She has a way of being manipulating and calculating and she knows how to push her son's buttons," says Dries.

Before fans of the series panic that the brothers will end up hurting each other, Dries is quick to assure that the two will be catching on her evil plans in time to defend the town from blood thirsty heretics. The executive producer also explains that while Lily certainly appears to be really evil, she is still their mother.

"She is a villain in that what she wants opposes what our heroes want, but in her mind all she wants is peace and she would love it if everyone would get along," explains Dries.

Meanwhile, season 7 will also dwell on the heretics who managed to enter Mystic Falls with Kai's (Chris Wood) help in the season 6 finale. The teaser released by CW shows the foul creatures eating their way through the town. And who else can be seen directing from the sidelines? Yes, it is again Stefan and Damon's mother, Lily.

While the younger Salvatore brother and his vampire lady love Caroline (Candice Accola) are left to pick up the pieces once the heretics are done with their "food fest," Damon wants nothing to do with the situation. After all, he is dealing with the loss of Elena (Nina Dobrev) the only way he knows how — getting drunk.

The Vampire Diaries will premiere on Oct. 8 at 8 p.m. on The CW.
