Nexus 8 release date in June or Q3? HTC may manufacture next-gen tablet

The rumor mill continues to churn regarding Google's next-generation tablet.

With reports that Google has ditched the Nexus 10 model and going for a possible 8-inch option, the rumor mill continues to churn on which company the search engine giant will commission to produce the tablets.

In recent rumors, HTC may be tasked to manufacture the upcoming Nexus 8 tablets, rather than Asustek Computer. The alleged move comes after reports that Google plans to revamp the existing design of its current 7-inch slates.

There are still no signs of a second-generation Nexus 10 2 tablet in sight, and stock for the Nexus 10 has been renewed on the Google Play store.

The rumored Nexus 8 tablet is set to pack powerful specs, including a 64-bit CPU and the latest Android 4.5 software.

Google's Nexus 7 and Nexus 7 2 have proven to be popular for its simple design and high-end specs which come at a reasonable price.

If the Taiwanese company does manufacture Google's next tablet, it will likely be slated for release in Q3 this year. However, consumers are hoping that the tablet could be released earlier at the upcoming Google's I/O Developer Conference.

Google's annual conference will take place in San Francisco from June 25 to 26. The upgraded Android 4.5 operating system is expected to launch at the time, and rumors suggest the device may be unveiled at this time, with the software preinstalled.
