'Modern Family' season 7 premiere: Haley chases after Andy in episode 1

"Modern Family" season 6 ended with a cliffhanger where Andy (Adam DeVine) never had the chance to learn if Haley (Sarah Hyland) is indeed in love with him despite Phil's (Ty Burrell) assistance. Now that Haley has come to terms with her feelings for Andy, the season 7 premiere will resolve what becomes of the two.

According to a report from Entertainment Weekly, Phil — at least a robotic form of Phil — attempted to tell the two that they are lovers and not just good friends but the attempt failed. In the season 7 premiere, Phil finally gets the message through to his daughter when he yells at the whole family via the speakerphone.

"Haley and Andy love each other, but they don't know it!" Phil says to the family and then directs his next statement to Haley. "I could tell by the way he hugged you goodbye."

The premiere episode will have Andy heading out to propose to Beth (Laura Ashley Samuels). However, Phil will be the one to let Haley know that Andy will propose at the beach which proves to be vital information since Haley knows which beach is Andy's favorite spot.

Unfortunately, Andy's phone is off so there's no immediate way for Haley to contact him and stop him from heading to the beach to propose to Beth. However, since she knows where to find him, the premiere episode will follow Haley's frantic race to get there in time in order to confess her love for him.

Headlines and Global News reports that there are sources citing Haley will be successful in stopping Andy before he reaches Beth and that season 7 will finally see Haley get into a real relationship. The character thus far has shown her reluctance to enter into relationships due to commitment issues and has only been in a few flings throughout the series' run.

Where this leads to may become a big chunk of season 7's focus. It may develop into a new story arc for Haley and may even ride out into new plot territories before the season is over.

"Modern Family" season 7 premieres this Sept. 23 on ABC.
