TNT's "Major Crimes" was supposed to end with season 5; however, word is that the show is going to continue for another season.

The previous season ended with an explosive episode, literally. Sharon Raydor (Mary McDonnell) was promoted to commander by Leo Mason (Leonard Roberts), the new Assistant Chief of Special Operations. He coveted Russell Taylor's (Robert Gossett) former position from the other two aspirants, Sharon and Winnie Davis (Camryn Manheim). Also, a bomb, planted by Cristian Ortiz (Celestino Cronielle), a man who was convicted for a murder he did not do, went off in the Major Crimes office.

In an interview with TVLine, show creator James Duff said that the murder room explosion that happened in the season 5 finale was meant to stir the viewers' emotions. "It was designed to make you feel a little verklempt," he said, and admitted that he also needed to process the loss in his mind. "It took me until after everybody had gone and we had stopped filming to go over and walk through the rubble — partially because I wanted to see it on film and see how I felt, before I saw it in reality."

The explosion almost killed the squad, but thanks to Sharon's impressive detective skills, she was able to find out where the bomb was and save the lives of her division.

Duff also revealed in the interview that Winnie may not be seen on the show for quite some time in the next season. "It will be the last we see of her for probably a little while," he said of the threatening Assistant Director of Operations. "I won't say that she'll never come back, but she won't ever be as threatening again."

The police television series "Major Crimes" is currently on a hiatus, but word is that it is definitely coming back for another season. As with the season 6 release date, speculations say that it is going to be in the second week of June. That is if the network follows the premiere pattern of the show's past four seasons, according to Cartermatt. The upcoming season may also run for 10–13 episodes.
