'Mad Men' season 7 finale: Fans will see the last of Jon Hamm in 'Person to Person'

Jon Hamm in Mad Men AMC

Don Draper's grand era ends tonight as the long-running Emmy-winning series "Mad Men" speeds off into the sunset. The final episode of the television-changing AMC show titled "Person to Person" will wrap up the chain-smoking, hard-drinking alpha male's story.

"Mad Men," no doubt, is one of TV's premium series, if not the best, in recent memory, one that catapulted AMC to new heights. Apart from drawing success to its home network, the Matthew Weiner-developed drama became part of each of the multitude of households that followed it.

But the ache of no longer filming weighs so much on lead actor Jon Hamm, who plays Don Draper in the series. Talking to the audience during the series' TCA panel, the actor did not need to express his melancholy with words about the end of the life-changing saga.

"There's no version of this ending that is not super-painful for me mostly because of these people and this person," gesturing to his co-stars and friends. "They've been the single constant in my creative life for the last decade. That's kind of tough."

Weiner, on the other hand, emphasized on not giving any sort of clue about the "Mad Men" season 7 finale although he had a lot to say about how the installment, which will tie things up with a bow, was crafted.

"The show's become so much more concentrated on these (six) characters. There's not much more room for digression," Weiner said. "We didn't want to leave anything on the floor in the writers' room. So organically it became a thing where every one of these episodes became the end of the show."

The moment that "Mad Men" fans do not want to come is finally closing in. The series finale that would flesh out Don Draper's complicated life will air tonight, May 17. This day marks the end of a celebrated era. Be sure to tune in to AMC or watch it online on AMC.com.
