Julianne Moore hit the headlines during "The Great Gatsby" premiere at the Cannes Film Festival last week not for her beautiful dress, but for her toes that were pictured hanging over her platform sandals.

Her toes seemed squashed from her sandals and looked very painful.

However, Moore addressed her fashion faux pas last night during an appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon."

"I didn't feel a thing," she told the host. She dubbed the incident "Toemageddon", saying "I felt fine! I was just walking along, like, 'Hiiiii, I'm at Cannes' and my toes are hanging off [my shoes]!"

She said she was not aware that her shoes were stealing the show until she checked Twitter.

She joked to Fallon: "I needed to prevent this from happening again. So I cut my toes off." The actress then gave the host a silver box containing her toes.

The 52-year-old actress had worn a black and lilac colored Dior dress to the festival.

Moore has received four Academy Award nominations for her work in "Boogie Nights" (1997), "The End of the Affair" (1999), "Far from Heaven" (2002), and "The Hours" (2002)..

She has also written a successful series of children's books, "Freckleface Strawberry." The book was a New York Times bestseller.

Mooree is married to director Bart Freundlich and the couple have two children.
