The iPad Mini 5 was not presented during the recent Worldwide Developers Conference, which was held by Apple. Apple instead focused their time on the Watch OS 2 and iOS 10, and according to a report from Movie News Guide, it is more likely that the new tablet will be launched by this coming September.

According to the report, previous iPad Mini models have traditionally launched in October. However, back in 2015 Apple did not hold an event in October and had to launch the iPhone 6s and the new iPad Pro together in one event, which took place last September.

That being said, the report points out that it is very likely the iPad Mini 5 will launch this September alongside the iPad Air 3, iPhone 7 and any new device that Apple has planned to release before the end of the year.

Fans are speculating that the iPad Mini 5 may be one of the most advanced tablets yet from Apple as it will utilize 7000-series aluminium, ensuring it is durable and will not bend despite being ultra-thin. While it is yet to be confirmed, the iPad Mini 5 is speculated to be as thin as 5mm, even thinner than the 5.6mm Samsung Galaxy Tab S2.

Other rumored features include 3D Touch, an even more powerful camera as well as a smart connector for easy access for Apple accessories such as a keyboard. The iPad Mini 5 is also speculated to come pre-installed with iOS 10 and is going to be one of the feature devices to utilize the new OS.

It was also rumored that the iPad Mini might even be discontinued if Apple pushes forward with just the iPad Air 3 and the iPad Pro lines. With just two variations, the company may no longer need another small tablet on the market.
