iPad Air 3 release date imminent after big discounts on iPad Air 2? Specs and features revealed

Will Apple still release the successor of iPad Air 2? Apple

Apple fanatics are still anticipating the release of a new device — the iPad Air 3 — from the Cupertino-based tech company, and according to reports, it could happen sooner.

Yibada reported that iPad Air 3's release is imminent because several units of iPad Air 2 were on sale for Cyber Monday.

For the holiday sale this year, units of iPads have been given away at discounted prices in different retail stores, with some going as far as slashing $150 from the regular price.

A 64 GB iPad Air 2 (Wi-Fi only) is offered at $100 less at Best Buy, while a 16 GB variant also received a $100 discount, selling at $399, Yibada mentioned.

In the recent Black Friday sale, select models of iPad Air 2 were also offered, with discounts of up to $125, iPhoneHacks reported.

With discounts and rumors of a launch of a new device, it led to the speculation that iPad Air 3 is soon to be released.

For the specs, iPad Air 3 is reportedly getting significant changes for its memory and processor, International Business Times noted.

iPad Air 2 currently runs on an A8X chip with RAM capacity between 2 GB to 4 GB. With that said, its successor will reportedly carry an A9X processor, which is considered to be more efficient and has the capacity to deliver a more powerful performance compared to the A8.

Meanwhile, it was also noted that iPad Air 3 will have a thinner design and a 9.7-inch display once it gets released. Word also has it that the device will have an 8-megapixel iSight main camera and a 2-megapixel selfie taker, Tech Times reported.

iPad Air 3 may have been rumored to feature powerful specs, but speculations also suggest that the device will not be overwhelmingly expensive. Reports indicated that the upcoming device will be priced at $610, still considered affordable since it's lower than the current price of iPad Pro.

It is important to note that iPad Air 3 is still in the rumor category and nothing has been confirmed. Reports circulating should be taken with a grain of salt.
