With the continued success of the GoPro Hero 4, fans are excited to know what GoPro Inc. will come up with for the next iteration of the ever-increasing popular action cam. With other tech giants like Xiaomi coming up with their own version of the the Hero cam, GoPro Inc. is indeed focused on bettering themselves and coming up with another trick up their sleeve for their action cam's successor.

Capitalizing on the success of the Hero 4, GoPro Inc. is rumored to release the Hero 5 before the year ends, with noticeable improvements.

New build

A report about a patent for the San Mateo-based GoPro Inc. details that it will still go with the same box design build, the same as with its predecessors. However, the design also has some major tweaks, with a new battery door at the back, additional buttons with undisclosed functions, and LED indicators on the camera's front.

Although still boxy in appearance, the new design will have more rounded corners, and small pricks on the design indicate possible additional mic locations, indicating surround sound recording.

Specs tweaks

Since most users find the GoPro Hero 4's 30 fps lacking, there are rumors that say that the to-be released Hero 5 will boast a 60 fps frame rate, at least to counter Xiaomi's Yi action cam. The new Hero will also have faster upload and response times by going with Bluetooth 4.0. The battery will also be more powerful and power longevity significantly improved. Its alleged 2800 mAh capacity will ensure that the new Hero's battery will last at least 1.5 times longer than the previous model's.

The upcoming Hero 5 will also specifically target the specialized diving market, since it is rumored that the upcoming action cam will upgrade from 30 to 60 feet underwater capacity.

No official details have been sighted yet, but the online community is speculating that the GoPro Hero 5 will be released sometime in the fourth quarter of this year.
