Square Enix has not provided fresh information about the ongoing development of "Final Fantasy 7" remake for months, although the Japanese game studio's upcoming title remains as one of the most talked-about game projects this year. At the Tokyo Game Show (TGS) 2017, fans asked "Final Fantasy XV" game director Hajime Tabata if he would accept doing the modern take on the PlayStation One classic. In a nutshell, Tabata replied with a "no."

In an interview with Game Revolution at TGS 2017, Tabata revealed that he has no interest to be involved in the development of "Final Fantasy 7" remake. Square Enix has not yet offered Tabata a stint in the upcoming game remake, but it appears that the director is decided not to accept the project if it would be given to him.

Tabata said that taking on "Final Fantasy 7" remake would put a lot of pressure on him, given that the original game has amassed a huge number of followers over the years. He does not think that he can give the long-time players the satisfaction by giving "Final Fantasy 7" a modern retelling, Siliconera reported.

However, Tabata is still very much interested to do more "Final Fantasy" projects in the future. He said that he would be happy if Square Enix chose him to do a new "Final Fantasy" title and take the entire game series "in a new direction." In the case of a modern "Final Fantasy 7" title, Tabata mentioned directors Yoshinori Kitase and Tetsuya Nomura as the only ones who know how to improve the original game. To note, Kitase and Nomura served as game directors of the earlier "Final Fantasy" installments.

In other news, "Final Fantasy 7" remake director Nomura teased the public to wait for important details in the near future. Nomura, who is also involved in Square Enix's other upcoming video game, "Kingdom Hearts 3," revealed in the translated interview with Famitsu that a big announcement is waiting for "Final Fantasy 7" fans this year.

There is no certainty about the next big reveal of "Final Fantasy 7" remake, although Express UK reported that 2017 might be the perfect year to launch the game, or at least spill more details about it. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the "Final Fantasy" series. Meanwhile, the original "Final Fantasy 7" is celebrating its 20th anniversary this 2017.
