'Blue Bloods' season 6 renewed or cancelled? high ratings point to renewal

Blue Bloods CBS

CBS has been late with their renewal and cancellation announcements lately, and one of the shows waiting to hear the verdict is "Blue Bloods." Fans have little reason to worry though, as it is highly unlikely that the show will get the boot for one ultimate reason and that is its ratings.

The show's time slot is at 10:00 p.m. Eastern Time every Friday night, which is a tough time slot to rake in viewership. But this past season, "Blue Bloods" has been killing it. It was the most watched show every Friday night, except last Friday when the Diane Sawyer interview of Bruce Jenner aired. What this means for CBS is that if they're cancelling the show, then they must have a TV show that will be able to get the same ratings, which is unlikely. This police procedural drama series can beat "Hawaii Five-O" and "The Amazing Race" and that is a tough feat.

According to CarterMatt, another thing to consider is the contract between the show and the actors. With these kinds of shows, actors usually get a six-year contract. This means that the cast members are still legally connected to the series, so it won't be a problem at the casting side. Plus, actors Tom Selleck and Donnie Wahlberg are doing a great job at juggling their schedules anyway.

Hollywood Hills also confirm that CBS has not made any news or announcement about the renewal or cancellation of "Blue Bloods." The report said that the show averaged 9 to 11 million views in season 5 and with those numbers, fans shouldn't worry about a cancellation at all.

CarterMatt believes that "Blue Bloods" still has a lot of story to tell. The police force is now in the spotlight, which makes room for more storylines.

At any rate, if there is an announcement, CBS might make that by next week or the week after that, so fans should stay tuned.
