'The Big Bang Theory' season 9 spoilers: Meaning of the ring to be unveiled in episode 1 premiere episode

The Big Bang Theory season 9 CBS

The eighth season of "The Big Bang Theory" had a lot of viewers asking what will become of Sheldon and Amy after the breakup, all while getting their hearts broken knowing the former has kept all along what was interpreted as a wedding ring.

In previous interviews, Mayim Bialik, who plays the role of Amy, advised fans not to jump to conclusions when it comes to that bit, adding more to the mystery of the ring. But thankfully, the show won't take long to reveal what that ring really means.

During the writers of the show's panel at the San Diego Comic-Con, executive producer Steve Molaro said that the very first episode of the new season will shed light on what the ring is truly there for. There were no hints, however, just the promise that fans won't wait that long.

It was not promised that season 9 will be the season Amy and Sheldon will take another stab at working things out in their relationship. There's no word that will answer the question of whether or not the pair will be in those terms for a while.

In the panel, where Bialik and Kunal Nayyar (Raj in the series) made a surprise appearance, there was a mention on the possibility of Amy's backstory being delved into.

"I'd love to know those things as well. We live these characters week to week. You may learn she had a great, great uncle who didn't play by the rules," writer Eric Kaplan hinted.

As for Penny and Leonard, there is no confirmation if their wedding will be called off after the latter's confession. As Entertainment Weekly noted, the couple is still headed to Las Vegas where they are supposed to get married.

It also looks like there will be some big "Ghostbusters" reference in season 9. As revealed during the convention, it was made possible with the help of Joel Murray, the brother of Bill Murray who starred in the iconic franchise, who assisted the team with the license issues.

"The Big Bang Theory" season 9 will premiere in fall.
