A new horror film based on the infamous Amityville house will come to theaters by January next year. The film will also debut internationally and is speculated to be a sequel.

"Amityville: The Awakening" is set to debut on January 6, 2017. According to Game N Guide, the film was originally slated to hit theaters on January 2015, but was rescheduled to April 2016 when there was a change of production companies. This date did not hold because "Amityville: The Awakening" had to go through screening tests and because of the needed changes, it had ended up with a later debut date, which is January 2017.

The upcoming Amityville horror film is directed by "Maniac" and "P2" director Franck Khalfoun. "Amityville: The Awakening" was also produced by Daniel Farrands, Casey La Scala, and Jason Blum.

According to the plot released by Bloody Disgusting, "Belle (Bella Thorn), her little sister, and her comatose twin brother move into a new house with their single mother Joan (Jennifer Jason Leigh) in order to save money to help pay for her brother's expensive healthcare. But when strange phenomena begin to occur in the house including the miraculous recovery of her brother, Belle begins to suspect her Mother isn't telling her everything and soon realizes they just moved into the infamous Amityville house."

Initially, "Amityville: The Awakening" had earned an R-rating from the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) because of its "strong horror violence and for language." However, after another screening test, the film has been submitted and approved for a PG-13 rating.

Dimensions released an international movie poster for "Amityville: The Awakening" with the premiere date listed as December 2, 2016. The said poster also had the number 2 beside the title, and this has caused speculations that the film is a sequel, but it is unclear to which Amityville film.

"Amityville: The Awakening" is set to premiere on January 6, 2017.
