Many of us have no problem listening to the same songs over and over again, or reading our favourite books for the umpteenth time but when it comes to Bible reading, it's often something that too many of us put on the back burner.

It's a source of comfort, guidance, joy and opens the door to understanding our salvation. So why do so many Christians not make Bible reading a priority or think of this spiritually nourishing activity as a chore or something they can avoid?

From unintentionally failing to devote time to doing it, to actively avoiding it, there are many reasons why we might not make an effort to study God's word on a regular basis and many things that might influence our decisions to relegate its place in our schedules.

It's important to return to God's word at regular intervals so that we can refresh our memories and our spirits to act in a way that is in accordance with His commands but also so that we can be reminded how much we're loved and valued by Him.

The Bible contains the most important words and messages that we will ever come across and it's an essential ingredient of our spiritual diet. Whatever is stopping you from recognising the significance of spending time with your Bible, the scripture below highlights some of the reasons that you need it to be a regular fixture in your life.

Here are nine Bible verses which should reignite your passion for reading God's word.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 - All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Psalm 119:105 - Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.

Joshua 1:8 - Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.

Matthew 4:4 - Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'"

Psalm 1:2 - Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night.

Hebrews 4:12 - For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

1 Timothy 4:13 - Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching.

Psalm 119:10-11 - I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.

Romans 10:17 - Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.
