Very little has been revealed about Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but according to VCPost, one actor bowed out of a film to appear in another MCU project. The site claims that Jeremy Renner decided not to be in "Thor 3: Ragnarok" so he could play a part in "Captain America: Civil War." 

The actor is set to appear in "Mission Impossible 5," "Avengers: Age of Ultron," and now "Captain America: Civil War." Adding "Thor 3" to the mix could cause overlapping issues with the actor's schedule so it was very likely that Renner had to choose one or the other. In this case, he reportedly chose "Captain America."

It is a little bit disappointing for fans because his character Hawkeye was introduced in the first "Thor" film, released in 2011. The third "Thor" film is rumored to focus on the "end of the world" based on Norse mythology and could tie in with Thanos' quest for the Infinity Stones. 

However, it makes more sense for Renner's character to make an appearance in "Captain America: Civil War" since its storyline revolves around the conflict between Captain America and Iron Man as well as the numerous superheroes surrounding them. It is possible, however, that the actor's role in the "Civil War" film is small considering how many characters the movie already has. Iron Man, Spider-Man, Black Panther, Black Window, Falcon, Winter Soldier, and Crossbones are all reportedly set to appear in the film. 

While Renner's busy schedule may have prevented him from appearing in "Thor 3," the film will still feature both Chris Hemsworth as the titular character and Tom Hiddleston as his step-brother Loki. There has been no official confirmation if the rest of the "Thor" cast, such as Natalie Portman and Kat Dennings, will be coming back. Portman may not be returning either, due to her current project "Jane Got a Gun." 

"Thor: Ragnarok" was initially set to be released in theaters on July 28, 2017, but the Sony-Marvel deal regarding Spider-Man has pushed this release date to Nov. 3, 2017.
