These Bible verses directly address God's definition of marriage and homosexuality

The Bible is the ultimate source of God's word, and it addresses people's concerns about homosexuality and same-sex marriage.

After the US Supreme Court ruled in favour of same-sex marriage recently, many people have begun searching for Bible verses that best answer concerns relating to gay union.

The Gospel Herald decided to assist people in their quest by compiling a list of Bible verses that directly address homosexuality and God's definition of marriage.

The first one is from John 15:18-21. It says: "If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you: 'A servant is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours. But all these things they will do to you on account of my name, because they do not know him who sent me."

The Bible says that marriage is intended solely between one man and woman, and this is backed up by the verses Genesis 1:27-28, Matthew 19:4-6, and Malachi 2:15.

The first one read: "So God created man in his own image; in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. And God blessed them. And God said to them, 'Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds.'"

The second says: "'Haven't you read,' he replied, 'that at the beginning the Creator 'made them male and female' and said, 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh?' So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.'"

Lastly, the verse from Malachi says: "Did he not make them one, with a portion of the Spirit in their union? And what was the one God seeking? Godly offspring. So guard yourselves in your spirit, and let none of you be faithless to the wife of your youth."

God deems homosexuality as a sin, and this is indicated in Romans 1:26-27 which says: "Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion."

Leviticus 18:22 instructs: "Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable."

Romans 1:18-18 warns people: "For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them."
