'The Affair' season 3: Cole wonders if Alison's child is his

With Noah (Dominic West) gearing for a reunion with Helen (Maura Tierney), Alison (Ruth Wilson) is left with nothing and no one in the upcoming installment of the Showtime series "The Affair." Will she seek solace from former husband Cole (Joshua Jackson)?

Before Cole got a new grip to life and met his new wife, Luisa (Catalina Sandino Moreno), he was a huge mess. Pining for Alison made him a moody person, preferring to have the company of alcohol than of the people who care for him. When Alison had a row with Noah, Cole was there to comfort her and that led to them spending the night together. He had been hopeful for a reunion, but Alison once again broke his heart when she chose to return to Noah.

During the season 2 finale, Alison revealed that she was not sure who the father of Joanie was. It could be Noah, Cole, or even dead Scotty (Colin Donnell). It was revealed that she and Cole's brother had something going on before his death, and he could have fathered Alison's child. Noah was horrified with his fiancée's lies and before the fatal accident that killed Scotty, he and Helen were about to get back together. Scotty, of course, was dead. For his part, Cole must be curious if he got Alison pregnant that night.

Although Cole is a newly married man and looks like he loves Luisa, there must be a small part in him that still cares about Alison. When they were married, he yearned for a baby. Alison's affair destroyed what they share, but he still has a soft spot for her until now. Will Cole ask for a paternity test to determine if Joanie is his? If tests reveal that she is, what will he do? Will the fact that he has a child with Alison cause problems in his marriage with Luisa?

Meanwhile, the series' costume designer Caroline Duncan offered some interesting insights regarding season 3 with Entertainment Weekly. According to her, Tierney would be getting her own storyline instead of being portrayed through Alison's or Noah's eyes. She said that such is why they are excited to cloth the actress to fit the image being molded for her by the showrunners.

"What's fun about her character this season is that we finally get to portray her in her own storyline. Last season we saw her through Noah and Alison's point of view, which was pretty polarizing," Duncan said.

"The Affair" Season 3 will premiere sometime in 2016 on Showtime.
