'Pokémon Sun and Moon' release date news: trailer shows six new Pokemon

 The Pokemon Company

The Pokemon Company has released a new trailer for "Pokemon Sun and Moon," which is set to be released for the Nintendo 3DS this coming November. The trailer doesn't show much in regards to the world or the new mechanics but it does reveal six brand new Pokemon that will be added to PokeDex, which has over 721 Pokemon thus far.

The first new Pokemon revealed is Wimpod, a bug and water-type Pokemon and is followed by the grass-type Bounsweet. The wreath-looking Comfey is revealed to be a fairy-type Pokemon and the horse-inspired Mudsdale is ground-type and has an ability that raises its Defense after getting hit. There is also Bewear, a normal-fighting type.

However, the most peculiar Pokemon introduced is Mimikyu. In the trailer it is revealed that it primarily disguises itself as a hand-drawn Pikachu. It is unknown if its true form will ever be shown in the game. It is noted that the Generation 1 Pokemon, Cubone and Marowak, have never shown what their real faces are in any of the main games.

New Pokemon are not the only tidbits shared in the trailer as it is also revealed that one of the new mechanics in the game is a system that allows players to create their own competitions.

One of the biggest elements of the franchise is known as the "Pokemon League" but this has always been against AI opponents. It now appears that players will be able to form their own tournaments against real-world players, adding a new layer of complexity and challenge.

It is also revealed in the trailer that Hyper Training will be making a comeback. The mechanic first appeared in "Pokemon X and Y" and allows players to train which stats they want to raise. Before this mechanic was introduced, players had to make their Pokemon fight specific Pokemon in order to raise specific stats, a practice known as "IV training."

"Pokemon Sun and Moon" will be released this Nov. 18.
