Evan Blass aka @evleaks, leaks his own retirement on Twitter

Evan Blass, aka @evleaks, provides an accurate leak of the Moto 360 before announcing his shocking retirement.@evleaks / twitter

Does @evleaks still need an introduction? If you don't know who he is, he is the tipster who has been providing accurate leaks regarding upcoming tech devices.

The latest leak that he had given is his accurate and hi-def rendering of Moto's 360 on his tweet dated August 2, 2014.

The man behind all these successful leaks is a man named Evan Blass, a former writer for tech blog Engadget, who has time and again leaked features of phones from Nokia, HTC, Samsung, Motorola, LG and more way before they have been introduced to the public.

It was only last October that he had decided to come out of his anonymity in an interview with Android Police.

Why did he do this? Well, he does profit by selling ad space on Evleaks.at and devoting paid advertisements on his Twitter account, which to date has some 187,000 followers.

However, last August 3, all his twitter followers have been surprised by a retirement post from Blass: "All good things must come to an end. Thank you for an amazing two years. [RETIREMENT]"

In an interview with thenextweb.com, Blass has revealed his reason for his shocking retirement:

"These matters are always somewhat complicated, but like many things, it mostly comes down to money. Trying to monetize a stream of Twitter leaks is not easy. First I tried monthly sponsorships. Then weekly. Then single sponsored tweets. I took donations — felt like online panhandling.

"I also started a website, and it's actually done somewhat respectably, but with all the leaks going out on Twitter anyway, people have little incentive to visit, and most of my tech-savvy-heavy audience seem to be pretty heavy ad-block users, as well. It all adds up to an unsustainable living, and with a progressively worsening disease [Ed; Blass was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis], I need to make sure I can prepare myself better for the future, financially."

And when asked if he plans to return to leaking again in the future, his answer is a definite no.
