Baptist World Alliance Set to Honour Retiring General Secretary

|PIC1|A banquet in honour of Baptist World Alliance (BWA) General Secretary Denton Lotz and his wife, Janice, will be held on Saturday 3 March.

The event has been planned as a North American Celebration, will look to honour Lotz on his retirement as General Secretary of the BWA, and will be held in Virginia. Lotz is set to retire on 31 December 2007.

The former American missionary to Eastern and Central Europe was elected General Secretary in 1988 after the tragic death of Gerhard Claas, a German who served in the position from 1980, explains the BWA.

Lotz has since led the organisation that has grown to more than 200 member conventions and unions from more than 130 countries around the world with over 36 million members. Lotz previously served the BWA as Director of the Youth Department, and of the division of Evangelism and Education.

Former presidents of the international organisation will be in attendance, as well as relatives and friends of the Lotz family from various countries.

Among those participating will be former United States President Jimmy Carter, honorary chairman of the planning committee, as well as evangelist Billy Graham, both of whom will send greetings.

Denton and Janice Lotz are the parents of two sons and one daughter, and have been married for more than 36 years. Janice is a retired schoolteacher and has been a strong supporter of her husband and the BWA throughout the years.
