James Cameron has bigger plans for the upcoming sequels of his blockbuster hit 2009 film "Avatar."

During a speech that addressed the engineers of the Society of Motion Picture and Television, the filmmaker revealed that he wants to offer "Avatar 2" and its succeeding sequels in 3D. But this time, he wants them to watch the upcoming films without the 3D glasses.

"I'm going to push. Not only for better tools, workflow, high dynamic range (HDR) and high frame rates (HFR) - the things we are working toward," the filmmaker stated in the speech as reported by Independent UK. "I'm still very bullish on 3D, but we need brighter projection, and ultimately I think it can happen - with no glasses. We'll get there."

At the moment, there is no technology yet that could allow the glasses-free viewing of movies in cinemas. However, Nintendo is already using it on their Nintendo 3DS consoles.

Meanwhile, the film director also told Variety back in September that the plot for "Avatar 2" and its next installments will center on the new adventures of Jake (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) and their kids as they defend themselves against the torture of human beings.

Cameron also told the publication that they are planning to roll out the second installment of "Avatar" in Christmas 2018. He also mentioned that he wants to set a pattern for the release of the succeeding installments, which means that viewers should expect to see the continuation of "Avatar" films every December. "I want them to be released as close together as possible. If it's an annual appointment to show up at Christmas, I want to make sure that we're able to fulfill on that promise," the filmmaker stated.

Aside from Jake and Neytiri, fans should also expect to see Dr. Grace Augustine (Sigourney Weaver) and Colonel Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang) return in the next installments of "Avatar."
