Xiaomi Mi 5 release date, specs rumors: Leaked images show off bezel-less design

The Mi 5 is said to be the Xiaomi's flagship release this year. If the device is really the Chinese company's next big offering, then it is doing a good job at keeping information about the device under wraps. However, excited and eagle-eyed users are as good at leaking pictures of it.

China-based publication Mobile Dad recently shared photos of the alleged high-end smartphone to give the tech world an idea of what Xiaomi has been working on. Although this remains uncorroborated, there's reason to believe that the pictured device is really the Mi 5.

The most eye-catching aspect of the handset in the photos is its sleek, bezel-free design that allows the screen to stretch from the left edge to the right edge. It is hard to tell if there are actually bezels but are just colored black or if Xiaomi is going for an edge-to-edge display for its flagship. All the same, this styling makes the device look a lot better and more tasteful.

According to Phone Arena, the handset in the image sports the same design language one would expect from Xiaomi. Furthermore, it resembles the look of its predecessor, the Xiaomi Mi 4, and has the three typical capacitive buttons below its display.

In the leaked images, the alleged Xiaomi Mi 5 seems to have a pair of openings at the bottom. Unfortunately, there's no way of knowing whether these are the reversible USB Type-C port and loudspeaker or a 3.5 mm jack. Gizmodo says that the device looks like it even has a USB port on the bottom portion.

As for the rest of the specs, the Xiaomi Mi 5 is reportedly featuring a 5-inch Quad HD display. It will likely draw its power from the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, paired with a 4 GB RAM and a 16 GB storage. Also, a 16- or 20-MP primary camera is expected as well as a fingerprint sensor.

Tech Times says it should at least pack a 3300 mAh battery to make it on par with the OnePlus 2. The same site claims the pricing will likely be at 1999 Yuan (or around $320). The flagship is slated to be made official on Aug. 16.
