A casting call for "The Walking Dead" season 6 has sparked the interest of fans of both Robert Kirkman's comics and the AMC hit series. Spotted from the Project Casting website, it was revealed that the show is on the lookout for someone who can play the role of Jason.
The character gets a status of a recurring guest star but is given an option to return in subsequent seasons. Jason is described as a Caucasian or Latino man in his 20's to 30's. He is also styled as "smart, friendly, and charming with a puckish sense of humor."
"He can be a thief, but he'll only steal half of what you have, and only if he knows it won't cause any permanent damage. He's generally a benevolent guy – pretty much making friends with everyone he meets," the rest of the casting call reads.
It is very likely that Jason is just a placeholder name and will not be the character's name when he appears in "The Walking Dead" season 6. That's why according to reports, the character may end up as Paul Monroe, better known as Jesus in the series.
Jesus is a very popular character in the comics and fans have been longing to see him in the AMC drama. He is a natural survivalist in the comics who earned his nickname because of his beard and long hair that reminds his friends of biblical images.
And basing on the source material, Jesus' inclusion will also entail the appearance of infamous villain and Jesus' rival Negan.
Showrunner Scott Gimple has already told Entertainment Weekly that their arrival in the series is a "possibility" although it will be very tricky to assimilate them in Rick and the gang's small-screen, walker-plagued world. Gimple said that bringing fan favorites like Jesus into the fold is "always a challenge to get it right because it's those characters — much like Rick Grimes in the beginning — that fans already have a sense of and expectations for." But that doesn't stop him from giving them life in the show.
"So we're always careful, and I feel like we've done a really good job servicing those fan expectations. Hopefully that trend will continue ... if the characters you mention are to appear soon," he said.
"The Walking Dead" season 6 premieres Oct. 11.
