Apart from higher stakes and more dreadful-looking walkers, the first half of "The Walking Dead" season 6 will be chock-full of flashbacks. Executive producer Scott Gimple has revealed during the San Diego Comic-Con via Cleveland.com that he is "working on an entire episode that is a flashback."
Gimple also dropped more hints about this in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, saying, "I think there's a really cool aspect to the first half of the season that serves almost as a prequel to some direct comic stuff in the second half of the season."
He added, "I think there's a way that Robert did some of the story that we're reaching that had a real past to it, where people are referring to some things in the past in the comic. And we're able to portray some of that backstory in some ways that you didn't get to see in the comic."
According to Cleveland.com, this could mean that fans will either get to know more about how Morgan became the calm man he is today or get to enjoy an extensive look at Alexandria Safe Zone's history, which will likely involve the residents that were banished from the walled community.
There are also speculations that the flashbacks in season 6 will shed light on the previous life of Enid, Carl's friend in the Safe Zone, and how she got to the site in the first place. There are reports that there are already actors cast as the young girl's parents.
Many fans would also undoubtedly want flashbacks centered on character Daryl and what his life was like before the walkers took over. While this isn't set in stone, Norman Reedus, who plays the crossbow-wielding toughie, said that his character will be in "a lot of trouble" in season 6.
Despite this, fans can take comfort in knowing that showrunner David Alpert has so much trust that Daryl will come through.
"What we've seen of anything out of the Dixon boys, they're smart," the executive producer told Access Hollywood. "They know what they're doing. They've been in some scrapes you know, they've been in some dust ups with the law. These guys are resourceful."
"The Walking Dead" season 6 premieres Oct. 11.
