'Two and a Half Men' season 12: Will final season see the return of Charlie Sheen?

Long-running comedy show "Two and a Half Men" is up for its final season, and word has gotten around that Charlie Sheen wants to come back for the series' send-off. It can be remembered that Sheen was fired during the show's eighth season back in 2011, when he had a highly-publicized clash with creator Chuck Lorre.

In an interview with TV Guide Magazine, Sheen said, "I've reached out to them and they've reached back. We're trying to figure out what makes the most sense. If they figure it out like I've presented it to them and they want to include me in some final send-off, I'm available and I'm showing up early. If not, it's on them."

However, the other camp has allegedly denied having spoken to the actor. A source told E! News, "Charlie has not had any conversations with the Two and a Half Men producers regarding a return. There has been no back and forth."

Followers of the series will remember that Sheen's character, Charlie Harper, was killed in an off-screen incident, leaving behind his brother Alan (Jon Cryer) and nephew Jake (Angus T. Jones). Since that only makes one and a half men, Sheen was replaced by Ashton Kutcher from season 9 onwards. Kutcher plays Walden Schmidt, Alan's new housemate and best friend.

If, hypothetically, Sheen and the creators of "Two and a Half Men" do manage to arrive at an agreement, it would make fans wonder how he'd be reintroduced into the show, considering that his character is already dead. Of course, since it's a sit-com, the writers can come up with quite a number of ingenious ways for Sheen to be able to make an appearance.

However, the actor told E! News that he wants his potential return to be classy.  He said, "If it's not done properly, then there is no reason to do it.  But it's a pretty smart group over there and I'm sure they will figure something. Something that makes sense to everyone."

"Two and a Half Men" season 12 is scheduled to premiere on Oct. 30 on CBS.
