'Transformers' 5 release, spoilers: Franchise confirmed to have up to 4 more sequels

Hasbro Executive Vice President and Chief Content Officer Stephen J. Davis revealed during the MIP Junior Conference Q&A that the "Transformers" live action films will be getting up to four more sequels and that they have planned the cinematic universe to continue with numerous sequels and spin-offs, reports Variety.

This means "Transformers 5" is indeed moving forward and that it will be followed by "Transformers 6," "Transformers 7," and "Transformers 8." These sequels are also separate from the already announced animated feature film that is set in the same universe and rumored to be a prequel set entirely in Cybertron.

Davis explained that over the course of three months the "writers' room" they had assembled, which included Academy Award winning writer Akiva Goldsman and "The Walking Dead" creator Robert Kirkman, have structured the "Transformers" cinematic universe for another 10 years.

"And they plotted out the next 10 years of Transformers," Davis stated. "Similarly, we are doing the same in television and in digital. So stay tuned, 'Transformers 5' is on its way, and 6 and 7 and 8."

Unfortunately, Davis did not give any details regarding the plot or setting of these upcoming "Transformers" films. The first trilogy focused primarily on Shia LaBeouf's character Sam Witwicky and then suddenly shifted gear to Mark Wahlberg's Cade Yeager in last year's "Transformers: Age of Extinction."

It is possible that future sequels will follow suit and focus on a different group of humans as they interact with the Transformers, as well as the war between the Autobot and Decepticon factions.

During the announcement, Davis also unveiled "Transformers: Robots in Disguise," an animated series that will serve as a direct continuation of "Transformers: Prime," which ended with the death of Optimus Prime and the dissolution of the Decepticons.

No release date for the other planned sequels have been released yet, although "Transformers 5" is expected to begin production next June with a tentative 2017 release date.
