'Tomb Raider' release date, news: Lara Croft searches for her father in reboot film

After Swedish actress Alicia Vikander was cast as Lara Croft in the "Tomb Raider" movie reboot, the next thing people were asking was: What's the film going to be about? Is it going to another movie about Lara Croft searching for lost treasure? Or are they going to start fresh? Vikander said it is going to be an origin story just like the 2013 game reboot, but will it follow the same plotline?

Well, it looks like producer Graham King has finally answered that question. In an interview with Hey U Guys, King revealed that the plan is to tell the origin story of Lara before she became the hardened adventurer/explorer, and she is going to be looking for her father.

"Well this is kind of what we call a 'back to the roots story.' This is a young Lara Croft in search to see if her father is dead or alive, so it has a very emotional part to it and I think that's what Alicia found so interesting about it. I think the storytelling is really good and I think we've got the right crew and a great director and I think it's going to be really fun making a film like this," he said.

The plotline is definitely different from past "Tomb Raider" movies. This isn't going to be the Lara who has a bag of tricks in her arsenal. It's a nice change nonetheless because this will feature a vulnerable Lara that the audience can relate to.

In the 2013 reboot game "Tomb Raider," Lara was setting out on her first expedition but things went from bad to worse when the ship she was on got caught in a storm and was split in two. Once she regained consciousness, she went to find the other survivors and encountered the not-so-friendly inhabitants of the island.

The "Tomb Raider" reboot film is scheduled to premiere on March 16, 2018.
