AMC's zombie-filled series "The Walking Dead" has the habit of killing fans' beloved character. The recent characters who got the ax were fan-favorites Shiva and Eric (Jordan Woods-Robinson). Now, fans are speculating whether or not Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs) will be the next character to leave the show.

Fans were reportedly wondering about the fate of Rick Grimes' (Andrew Lincoln) son for the eighth season of "The Walking Dead." It is important to note that no one is safe in the show, as fan-favorite characters have been ruthlessly killed off the show.

A great example of this was in the season 7 premiere, titled "The Day Will Come When You Won't Be," when Glenn (Steven Yeun) and Abraham (Michael Cudlitz) were mercilessly hit with Negan's (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) bat, Lucille, resulting to two of the most heartbreaking deaths of the show.

In a recent tweet, Riggs addressed the rumors jokingly, writing, "lmao y'all think i'm getting killed off every year," and attached some articles from three consecutive years reporting the possible death of his character. Although he found it funny, he did not confirm what will happen to his character in this season.

The recent rumors of his departure have been fueled by his acceptance to Auburn University. However, Riggs denounced speculations that he would be leaving the show to go to classes full-time. "Theoretically, I could take one or two classes on campus and maybe an online class. My professors would have to be willing to cooperate. It wouldn't be easy but I think that could be possible," he said.

"The Walking Dead" season 8 airs every Sundays, at 9 p.m. EST on AMC.
