'The Fosters' season 3 spoilers for episode 1 'Wreckage'

The Fosters ABC Family

The season 2 finale for "The Fosters" ended in a cliffhanger when Ana, Mariana, and Jesus got into a car accident while on the way to the hospital. Episode 1 of season 3, aptly titled "Wreckage," appears like it will be dealing with the events that follow the initial crash.

The title was later confirmed by series executive producer Bradley Bredeweg via Twitter. Bredeweg also penned the first episode along with Peter Paige. Paige is directing "Wreckage" with Jennifer Lopez returning as one of the executive producers of the series.

According to a report by Carter Matt, Jake T. Austin will be leaving the show and this indicates that his character Jesus may have died in the car accident. This is further cemented by the fact that Jesus was sitting on the spot that would have received the most impact from the crash. However, it is still possible that he will return in flashbacks to give closure to the character.

Their mother Stef is the first police officer on the scene as hers is the nearest patrol car in the vicinity. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like she is aware that it is her family in the wreckage.

A Tumblr spoiler site has also revealed that a new character named Tony will be introduced in season 3. Tony is described as a talented musician and that his interactions will primarily focus on both Callie and Brandon, perhaps as a love interest for the former and a friend to the latter.

No official date for "Wreckage" has been released. However, given that the third season has been green lit, fans have speculated that it will premiere in June. After all, season 1 premiered on June 3, 2013 and season 2 premiered on June 16, 2014. Also, the official Wiki page for "The Fosters" has also listed the premiere date for that month.
