'Tekken 7: Fated Retribution' given priority over 'Tekken X Street Fighter'

Tekken 7: Fated Retribution Bandai Namco

"Tekken 7: Fated Retribution" is set to launch in Japan arcades this coming July and it is expected that a console port will follow quickly after. According to a report from Yibada, the U.S. port of the game may include the initial PS4 version but there are rumors of PC and Nintendo Wii U or Nintendo NX versions coming as well.

"Fated Retribution" is an updated version of the original "Tekken 7" game as it will contain all of the new characters, costumes and content that have been patched onto the arcade versions since the game initially launched in Japan. It is speculated that this is the version Bandai Namco will port to the U.S. when the game is launched for the PS4.

With that being stated, it is now speculated that the Western release of "Tekken 7: Fated Retribution" for the PS4 will be released by the holidays at the end of the year. This would make the North American release delayed by nearly two years following the game's launch in Japan, which was back in March 2015.

However, the focus on "Tekken 7: Fated Retribution" has caused Bandai Namco to halt production on their other upcoming fighting game, "Tekken X Street Fighter." In an interview with GameSpot, "Tekken" director Katsuhiro Harada explained that releasing the latter now might cause a division between the fans of "Tekken" and "Street Fighter."

"When we develop fighting games, we try to keep the core community in mind as well as the wider audience that wants to play these games," Harada explained. "We don't want to split these communities, so a good window in which to release 'Tekken X Street Fighter' is something that's become difficult recently. So it's on hold for the moment."

It is speculated by fans that "Tekken X Street Fighter" will launch once DLC for "Street Fighter V" has started to slow down and a few months after the "Tekken 7" release in the U.S.
