'Supergirl' season 2 news: Show may be heading to the CW next season due to budget cuts

 CBS

It was previously reported that "Supergirl" had very high hopes of being renewed for a second season and while this still stands, it is now being reported that the second season will be moved to the CW network instead of airing on its original channel, CBS.

According to the report from The Wrap, the show may be moving to the CW network due to the fact that the series has become one of the most expensive freshman series that the CBS network has handled. However, despite the high production value, the series has not fared well enough in the viewership ratings to justify the expenses.

It is also pointed out that the audience of the CW is a more suitable fit for the series compared to the average audience of CBS, which is stated to consist primarily of "gray-area" viewers. This means that while the CW is open to comic book superheroes, the audience of CBS are more attuned to dramas and darker, more mature shows and comedies.

The report also points out that the move would make it easier for the studios to do more crossovers, akin to how "The Flash" main character, Barry Allen aka the Flash (Grant Gustin), was brought into "Supergirl." With all shows on the same network the studios may be able to do at least one or two crossovers per season.

It will also make it possible for other CW shows to crossover, such as "Arrow" and "Legends of Tomorrow," both of which have been renewed for a new season.

According to the report, fans have been requesting for the studios to move the show to the CW network back when "Supergirl" was announced.

However, it should be pointed out that the information remains unconfirmed and should still stand as pure speculation. Neither the CW, CBS or the cast of "Supergirl" have responded to the news and it is still possible for "Supergirl" season 2 to air on CBS this fall.
