Nintendo, together with Apple, has officially announced the release date of the highly anticipated "Super Mario Run" mobile game which is said to be released next month.

Simultaneously introduced with the iPhone 7 a couple of months ago, the game will be a side-scrolling, auto-runner title similar to the famed "Temple Run" franchise from Imangi Studios. In "Super Mario Run," players will take control of the iconic plumber as he dodges and jumps over blockades and enemies alike. Apart from just evading several hindrances during gameplay, players will have to gather coins whenever they have the chance as they are essential to purchasing in-game objects, power-ups, and materials needed to build their very own Mushroom Kingdom.

Moreover, in a video message, producer Shigeru Miyamoto demonstrated how the game will be played. Miyamoto was even showcased playing the game with just one hand suggesting the simplicity of the game. He also mentioned in the video that Mario will automatically jump over small obstacles and opponents making "Super Mario Run" easy to play even for the most inexperienced gamer. It was also said that the app will have a bonus add-on dubbed Toad Rally that is believed to be a racing game.

A limited version of the game can be played free of charge. However, to access the full version of the game, players will have to purchase it for $10.

It was noted back then that the game will be enjoyed by iOS users first, though the probability of it eventually being released to the Android platform is very high.

Meanwhile, Nintendo has yet to comment as to whether the forthcoming game will also feature other characters from the popular franchise.

"Super Mario Run" will be available on the Apple App Store for iPads and iPhones on Dec. 15.
