Fans will be glad to know that the massive online title "Star Wars Battlefront" recently got a major update. However, as an additional surprise, publisher Electronic Arts revealed that a new content expansion is on the way and will roll out sooner than players think.
According to a post on EA's official "Star Wars" blog, fans should expect the new DLC to roll out sometime next month. While not clearly disclosing specific details on when the expansion will release or what changes it will bring to the game, the announcement stated that the expansion will be called the "Outer Rim" DLC. The expansion is also mentioned to include "...free updates and the launch of our first digital expansion pack to give you more of the content you love – more maps, weapons, and heroes, and an all-new mode."
The new expansion "will allow you to fight among the factories of Sullust and battle within Jabba the Hutt's palace on Tatooine."
Meanwhile, aside from announcing the upcoming expansion DLC, the post also listed the improvements and changes brought by the February update in "Star Wars Battlefront." One of the major changes in the new version is that the 20vs20 Turning Point game mode is now available for all current maps that can support Walker Assault and Supremacy. In addition, a new map on Hoth landscape is unlocked, and the new area also supports the 40-player game modes and other team-based gameplay like Fighter Squadron.
There is also a new survival mission. Dubbed Ice Caves, the new game mode is available as both single- and team-player missions that pit players against waves of Imperial soldiers.
EA has yet to announce how much the upcoming "Outer Rim" DLC will cost if purchased as a stand-alone. Observers like GottaBeMobile place the price tag to be between $10 and $20.
