'Splatoon' news: New weapons, maps shown in new commercial; eerie music on boss fights explained

A Japanese commercial for video game "Splatoon" was recently shared by Nintendo. The clip shows off the new cool paraphernalia for players to enjoy such as brand new weapons and exciting new maps.

The video reveals that an ink-powered gatling gun will be in the game soon. This new gear, which Destructoid says looks like a minigun from "Team Fortress," has a paint bucket intact and will help players splash paint everywhere in concentrated shots.

The other new gear is the Rainmaker. It resembles an Inkzooka and is mounted with a gold dragon-headed skin where it charges up. The aforementioned site reports that this weapon will only be available in the game's Rainmaker mode.

The commercial also shows that players will get two new levels. One of the levels is an apartment complex with a lot of sectors to roam around in and a long and narrow bridge. There seems to be a grated higher level and a floor level as well.

In other related news, more and more "Splatoon" players are reportedly getting creeped up by the eerie background music that plays in the game's boss fights. According to reports, the sound almost feels like it belongs to a survival horror game.

"It's the first time I've heard this!" lead designer Tsubasa Sakaguchi told Eurogamer when asked about the eerie choice of music for the game. "I was the one who was in charge of the mechanics and the effects for the final boss ... Towards the end, though, I was running out of time so I was asking the staff around me to do things for me — like the staff credits and many other things."

Sakaguchi then concluded that it might have been "a curse from those other staff" and promised to take a look at it the moment he gets the chance.
